She soon joined me for dinner in the Gaslight Club. My wife had had to rush to a meeting at Andiamo’s, the other on-property restaurant at the Hilton O’Hare Airport hotel. I arrived about 7:45pm, so not all that late, and was seated in what has become our “standard booth,” in the linear dining area, before one reaches the bar in the rear of the restaurant. As our flight was a bit delayed, we had called to move our reservation back a bit, and were warmly greeted on the phone, and all necessary arrangements made. In May, during a one-night stay, to be at ORD Airport, we once more dined at the Gaslight Club. For a restaurant in an airport Hilton, it is one of the best, that we have encountered, and we will return.Īnother Nice Meal at the Gaslight Club We stay at the Hilton O’Hare Airport Hotel often, and most often, will dine at the Gaslight Club, in the main lobby. It was a very good meal, and a very good visit, even though the French Chardonnay was no longer on the wine list. On this visit, there was almost no one in that lounge/bar area, other than a few folk picking up food to go - a very slow night, but with travel just recommencing, not surprising. Behind those areas, is a bar, with more table seating, plus a piano, with live music. On this visit, we were in one of the booths. On several occasions, my wife has held meetings there, and it has worked well. The restaurant is sectioned off, in that there is a dining area, just off of the hostess stand, which has regular tables, booths, and then a “board room” area. On this visit, beyond the gentleman at the front desk, who was also doing the duties as Sommelier, I did not recognize any staff, until the singer (the Lounge is to the rear of where we were seated) walked past. Service was very good, and our servers were all masked. We ended up taking some of each wine back to the room, for “breakfast,” as our flight out was a bit later in the morning. For the Main Course, I ordered the Grilled Tuna w/ grilled tomatoes, asparagus and a lemon-caper sauce - quite good My wife ordered the Veal Marsala w/ mashed potatoes and mushrooms, which was quite good, tender and flavorful. We split an order of the Fried Calamari, which was, as always, quite good, and especially so for being away from an ocean. While short, the wine list does have some nice options. Not sure if the Montrachet will make it back on the wine list, or if this is a permanent change? The stemware was a bit on the industrial side, but adequate for an airport hotel dining room. Unfortunately, it was not available, so I made do with the Hartford Court Land’s End Sonoma Pinot Noir, and the Ferrari-Carano Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. I had the short wine list quickly, and chose the Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet ‘15. I find the lighting in the Gaslight Club to be a bit dim, but many would typify it as “romantic.” Still, I prefer a bit more light, over the table, than what is provided. We were promptly greeted by a gentleman, with whom we had interacted several times before, and were seated in one of the booths, in the main dining area. We had arrived earlier, so had time to unpack, before heading down to eat. It was a wonderful evening.ĭinner at the Gaslight Club In August, we were doing another overnight at the Hilton O’Hare Airport Hotel, and I had booked the Gaslight Club for dinner. However, that did not work out, as we were so tired, and the wine had made us so sleepy, who needed a nightcap? The service was professional, and the person, who seemed to be either the manager or owner, made the rounds, checking on everything and everyone. We, also, ordered a bottle of wine, which we could not finish, so we took it upstairs, thinking about drinking it as a nightcap. Both dishes were so flavorful, and my veal was covered with the most delicious wild mushrooms. My husband had the “Wienerschnitzel”, and I had the “Veal Marsala”. We find such bread irresistible, and, often, our downfall, as we just cannot resist eating it. Warm, exceptionally delicious, bread was brought to the table immediately. Live background music was coming from the bar area. The restaurant appeared to be almost full, and tables were properly spaced apart. We sat in a cozy booth, which was closed off on three sides, so like being in a little room. There is so much atmosphere here, and, it is very aptly named. And, we were so glad we did, even though we could not even get halfway through the generous portions. However, this restaurant seemed so special, with so many of our favorite foods on the menu, that we just had to go try it out. Usually, after a day of flying (and, especially, after having had to get up at 3 am), we are completely exhausted, and do not go out for dinner.
